61 Random Things About Me

  1. I was born in 1975. In Africa.
  2. I don’t like seafood. I wish I did.
  3. I want used to want a dog.
  4. I am was a small business owner. “Minuscule bordering on non-existent” is a more appropriate term. Now I’m at it again.
  5. I had a brother who died of SIDS when I was three. For years I thought it was my fault.
  6. I drive fast. I’m working on that. Sort of.
  7. I love the ocean.
  8. I played the flute for 8 years.
  9. I skipped Kindergarten. Too smart. Notice I didn’t skip any other grades.
  10. I studied abroad in Israel. Came home after one too many close calls with terrorist bombings.
  11. I’m the mother of four. The wife of one.
  12. I love a good hymn every now and then.  It is Well with My Soul is my favorite.
  13. I’ve lived in 5 different countries.
  14. I’ve attempted to learn 5 different languages. I only remember one. English.
  15. I had very bad acne for 4 years.
  16. I think public school teachers are the biggest unsung heroes in America. My sister is was one of them.  Now my husband is.
  17. I used to bite my nails. Now I only bite the skin around them.
  18. I gained 40 pounds when I was pregnant. All four times.
  19. I run, but not because I like it (see #18).
  20. I am moved to tears whenever I hear the pipe organ. I’m not sure why.
  21. I have a B.A. in Sociology and half a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy.
  22. I’ve decided not to finish my Master’s degree. Too many other things I want to do.
  23. I love tulips. They’re so simple and clean.
  24. Potatoes are my favorite food. Especially french fries and mashed.
  25. I’ve moved 29 times in my life. Literally.
  26. I’ve only prayed with one person to receive salvation. I don’t know how many I’ve led to Christ.
  27. I’m 6′2″. My inseam is 37″.
  28. I played basketball. I also played volleyball, tennis & softball and I ran track.
  29. I graduated from high school in a class of 19. In Africa.
  30. I had a horse when I was 14. Her name was Flicka.
  31. I almost hit a giraffe while learning to drive. In Africa.
  32. My favorite color is blue.
  33. I had a major claustrophobia attack while crawling through one of the Pyramids at Giza in Egypt once.
  34. I usually order a chicken sandwich when I go out to eat.
  35. I pluck my eyebrows regularly.
  36. I’m picky. Maddeningly so. Maddening even to myself.
  37. My parents are missionaries.
  38. I have peanut butter and jelly on toast almost every morning for breakfast.
  39. I’ve ridden a camel twice. It was uncomfortable both times.
  40. I married an African American. He was a rocket scientist. He rocks.
  41. I like candy.
  42. I can’t sing.
  43. I’m competitive.
  44. I sometimes use the TV as a babysitter. I admit it.
  45. I don’t have a favorite movie.
  46. I used to have panic attacks. I wouldn’t wish those on my worst enemy.
  47. I take lots of fish oil capsules each day to fight anxiety (see #46). Much to my surprise, I really think they work.
  48. I have expensive taste. Unfortunately, I don’t have the funds to match.
  49. I love IKEA. And thank goodness for it.
  50. I was in counseling for a year and a half. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done.
  51. My favorite book of the Bible is James.
  52. I got saved when I was nine.
  53. I’m good at starting things.
  54. I’m horrible at finishing things.
  55. I love ice cream.
  56. I’m not a very good cook.
  57. I get exceptionally crabby when I’m tired.
  58. Sometimes I tell my kids I love them so much I could squeeze their guts right out.
  59. I worry way too much about what other people think.
  60. I currently live in Texas and continually ask myself: How did THAT happen?
  61. I love the sun. My skin doesn’t.
