3 Scripture memory resources
September 1, 2009
We’re on a quest in our house to memorize more Scripture. Recently, we’ve found some music specifically for this purpose and I’m always amazed at how easy it is to learn something when it’s put to music.
Our kids have made it a habit of belting out Bible verses while doing the dishes. I love that. The dishes part. Oh alright, the Bible verses too.
Here’s what we’re listening too:
1. Songs for Saplings – These songs are written by my new friend Dana Dirksen and the songs are “designed to teach your little ones the word of God as they study their ABCs.” I’m a sucker for efficiency. As one would expect, the songs & verses are short and sweet, perfect for the little, little ones. Listen to some samples here.
(While not Bible verses but still VERY COOL, Dana also has 3 CD’s with questions and answers about God and Creation, Fall and Salvation, and Christ and His Work. These CD’s have got to be some of the most theology-packed kids’ songs I’ve ever heard. If you’re familiar with the Westminster Catechism, these songs contain many of those questions and answers. After listening to these, I’m glad concepts like justification and sanctification aren’t going to cause my children to run for the hills like they did me until I was well into adulthood.)
2. Seeds Family Worship – If it’s music for older kids or adults you’re looking for as well as the young ones, check these out. These are very well done. One cool thing about them is that when you buy a CD for $12.98, you get a second one for free — to give away.
As an aside, they’ve got these really engaging videos to showcase their music. May I present an example, for your viewing pleasure:
And here’s another one because these are just plain cool:
3. An Honorable Mention would be Steve Green’s Hide ‘Em in Your Heart. These are pretty good too, but not as good as the others in my opinion. One thing I dislike about these songs is that they don’t incorporate the chapters and verses into the music as well. Still though, I like Steve.
Anyone have any other good recommendations?

Okay, how’s this for impulsive….I just ordered from Seeds Family Worship and Songs for Saplings! Not really impulsive because I’ve been looking for this very thing for a long time but had not found anything I was greatly satisfied with.I’m so excited about these ministries….I want to go to a family worship conference…..now that sounds pretty awesome!

Oh you’re not alone. I did the exact same thing. Good to know someone else joins me in impulsivity.
