Good stuff, bad stuff, foot stuff
July 24, 2009
I’m reading about King Asa this morning. He wasn’t exactly a model king but I am particularly struck today by his foot issues (2 Chronicles 16:12).
So he had “diseased feet” (interesting in itself) and it says, “Yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but sought help from physicians.” Clearly, he was doing the wrong thing here.
Sounds a little strange at first because really, what’s so bad about going to the doctor, right?
Well, the problem did not lie in him going to the doctor but in the fact that going to the doctor replaced going to God for help.
So often I feel pretty self-righteous because I’m not doing “really bad stuff,” but the fact is, it’s the “good stuff” that makes me no better.
When I’m facing a problem, what are the “good” things I turn to for solutions that replace me turning to God?
Um, can anyone say, “the internet?”
