Sum-sum-summertime
July 7, 2009
I love summer. Love it, love it, love it. I like the heat, I like the sun and I especially like the fact that all members of this household (less the baby) can put on their own shoes — no tying or shoe-horning required. (OK, not like I’ve ever used a shoe horn…but it sounded good didn’t it?)
All I can say is, thank the good Lord for A/C because it’s just plain lovely. In fact, if I were a household mechanical system I would marry it.
Anyway, we’ve spent a LOT of hours at the pool this summer. Hayley & Isaiah are independent enough that all they need is an occasional glance from me to make sure they didn’t kill each other (you know, as opposed to drown).
Josiah thinks he’s independent now that he can ride the big water slides all by himself. He will also jump into the water willy nilly, sans floaties, despite the fact that he’s about as dense & compact as a boulder and can’t stay afloat to save his life. I think he gets a rush from near-death experiences (case in point). This doesn’t bode well for my future sanity. He has no fear because he has successfully given it all to me.
Aaron is a peanut, as usual, and walks around poolside as though he owns the place. His Nemo floaties almost pass for large biceps and I think he knows this considering the way he swings his arms as he walks — no, swaggers — around the joint. Cracks me up. He particularly enjoys watching people. He’ll walk right up next to a lounge chair and stand there staring intently at its occupant. He’ll stay there for several minutes, oblivious to the major faux pas he’s committing. I’m watching him watch them of course, albeit at a safe distance because you know, standing with him while he stares would be weird. (And no, I generally don’t intervene. I just let him stare because intervening would require me to move. And I’m lazy.)
Not that I never stare at people. I do. All the time. So much so that when my sister’s with me she frequently jabs me in the side with her elbow and sort-of-whispers through clenched teeth, “Aim! Quit staring!” It’s one of those things that I know I do except that I never know I’m doing it while I’m doing it. I don’t like the fact that I stare but I just find people so interesting. Anyway, if I’ve ever stared at you, I’m sorry.
Sheesh, where was I…
Oh yes, summertime.
I love it.
The end.

I’m with you, Sister! These days my kids are hanging from fruit trees, foraging to their hearts’ content—of course that means that there are a lot of pits and cores around, but, hey, if kids didn’t make messes, surely they’d be breaking the kid laws or something.
Enjoy your summer!

I love it – especially the image of the “floaty biceps”! Made me laugh.
