Forgiveness
March 9, 2009
Back in November I started reading The Shack. It is now March. Have I finished it? No. I got about 2/3 of the way through and lost interest. Consequently, it sat on our shelf untouched for several months. I wasn’t going to finish it at all but I picked it up again the other night when I exhausted all my recent library finds.
My favorite line so far (from page 224):
Forgiveness is not about forgetting, Mack. It is about letting go of another person’s throat.
So true. Unforgiveness, like holding someone by the throat, accomplishes nothing except limiting our own freedom.
I’m pages from the end. Who knows? Maybe I’ll finish it.

My husband likes to say that we have to forgive and remember…we remember what Christ did for us.

So true! My husband says that there’s only one scenario where we don’t have to forgive…that is, if someone’s offense against us is greater than the sum of all of our offenses against God. That will never happen.
By the way, I’m afflicted with Partial Book Syndrome as well. I have started three in the last year. My husband recently gave me “Uncommon” by Tony Dungy…I love it…so far. And I think it is one I’ll actually finish!
