My latest epiphany in 11 easy steps
February 12, 2009
- I’ve got issues. (OK, so that’s not the epiphany part.)
- I know this because I know what goes on in my brain.
- I’ve got bad brain habits. A bad brain habit (just made that up) is when I replay a wrong way of thinking (fear, anxiety, false guilt, bitterness, etc.) over and over and over again in my mind.
- This endless thought-loop is remarkably similar to the annoying CD my kids want me to put on “repeat” in the car.
- Enter Romans 12:2. Renew my mind.
- Yes. But how?
- Stop the CD (i.e. when I’m about to think it again, stop).
- Take the CD out (i.e. choose to not think it).
- AND PUT A NEW CD IN (i.e. fill my brain with good God stuff–Scripture, prayer, worship…those would be good).
- There’s only one catch. In order for it to work, I must access the Holy Spirit’s power. Incidentally, I can do that simply by asking. If I don’t access His power, repeat Steps 1-3. Forever.
- The end.

This is good, well said! And, after practice, it gets easier and easier. In time, you will not need to ‘practice’ at all — you will skip steps 1-4 and instead live a life of rejoicing.
