A fine mothering moment

So the last several weeks the last year, the baby has been waking up between 2 and 5 times a night.  And when I’m aroused from R.E.M. sleep multiple times per night for several nights in a row, I’m a bit…groggy.  Go figure.

So the other night he woke up crying a.gain. and I thought to myself, I’ll just try to give him a drink of  water.  Surely a little water will quiet him down. (OK so I’m not just groggy, I’m pretty much completely out of my mind because when was the last time A LITTLE WATER QUIETED HIM DOWN.)  Anyway, so I stumbled into the moonlit kitchen and spotted a sippy cup on the counter.  I took it to him and he guzzled it down…and then went to sleep!  Sweet, I thought, I rule.

So the next morning I was feeding him breakfast and remembered that his sippy cup was still in his bed.  So I grab it and, noticing that it needed to be refilled, unscrewed the top, looked inside and…

It was not water in that cup.

It was sat-out-all-day milk from breakfast before.

The operative word?  Was.

Don’t you just love those mothering moments. Ahh, just blame the sleep deprivation.
