Overheard at our house
January 15, 2009
The boys’ room has been in need of a major clean-out for a while now. The other day I had the umph, so I started the process.
When I get on these particular purging kicks, I grab a few trash bags, start picking things up off the floor, from behind dressers, from the closet and I put them in the “to put away” bag (in other parts of the house that is), the “trash” bag or the “give away” bag. I enlist the help of the owner(s) of the room by making them crawl under the dust-bunny populated, who-knows-what’s-down-there, dark recesses of the under bed areas. Then I assault them mercilessly with the following questions: “Can I throw this away?” “How about this?” “You don’t need this, right?” “Are you done with this?” as I hold up the item that I think should go…which happens to be most items. I admit it. Because quite frankly, except for our carefully-chosen collection of must-have-some-sort-of-educational-or-character-building-value toys, I don’t like to keep stuff. Too much stuff gives me too much stress.
Anyway, so as I was throwing things away with a vengenance in the boys’ bedroom, my son was in the kitchen with my daughter and my husband saying, “Has anyone noticed that mom is the one who buys stuff around here and then she throws it all away? We have GOT to stop her.”

you’re a woman after my own heart! You go girl! Don’t listen to the ‘bad’ talk and blaming you for their clutter!!! Clean! Organize! It is a wonderful feeling of accomplishment as well. Make sure the kids help!!!
