Fireproof the movie

October 10, 2008

I highly recommend it.  Married or not.  Great message.  And no crap.  I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie in which there was no crap.  In fact, there was one kiss where the main character (played by Kirk Cameron) kisses his wife (played by Erin Bethea), but Kirk Cameron has “long held to a principle that he would kiss no woman other than Chelsea [his real life wife]” and so Chelsea was flown in from L.A., donned with a wig and costume to make her look like Erin Bethea…so Kirk Cameron kissed his own wife instead of kissing the actress who played his wife.  (See the movie’s “About” here.)  It worked.

I laughed, I cried, I could totally relate.  I don’t generally see movies twice, but this one has serious potential as a date night outing with as many couples as we can find to go with us.

My husband is a career firefighter. He and I saw it together and he was amazed at how well they portrayed the firefighter’s life. Crazy schedules, stresses, too much down-time, and the practical jokes. We took the long way home afterward because we were so deep into discussions of the movie and our own marriage, we didn’t want to go home. I can’t wait for it to come out on DVD!

I just got back from watching Fireproof… the over all message was solid for sure; it was great to see such a different-flavored movie on the regular, big screen
