Yet another reason I’m not a huge fan of public school
September 16, 2008
So my daughter brings a note home from the school nurse last week which says she is short one immunization. If she doesn’t get said immunization by September 19, she’ll be kicked out of school until we show proof that she got it.
I call the school today because (of course) she can’t get in to see the doctor until September 30. Well, if we have to wait until September 30 to get the shot, she can’t come to school until September 30.
So I look at the letter from the nurse again and see that she needs the DTaP “on or after her fourth birthday.” I look again at her shot record and realize that she DID have a DTaP at her 4-year well-child visit. So I tell this to the lady at the school: “She had that shot at her 4-year visit.”
Her reply? “I do see the shot you’re referring to…but that was administered 9 days before her 4th birthday.”
Me: “Right. At her 4-year visit.”
Her: “But it has to be on or after her 4th birthday. Sorry, it’s a state requirement and they won’t budge.”
Are. you. kidding. me?
