Things I Love Thursday: Children’s Picture Books
September 4, 2008
Welcome to the first edition of “Things I Love Thursday” and this week’s theme: Children’s Picture Books. Your assignment has been to come up with your best-loved children’s picture book and share it with the rest of us. What could be better than a huge list of all of our very favorite books? Step aside Ms. Librarian.
Alas, it was difficult to choose only one, but I finally settled on The Quiltmaker’s Gift by Jeff Brumbeau. Here’s the summary:
When a generous quiltmaker finally agrees to make a quilt for a greedy king but only under certain conditions, she causes him to undergo a change of heart.
This is the book that I check out from the library even when my kids don’t want to. The illustrations are exquisitely detailed & colorful and the story is rich with meaning. It’s an outstanding book.
Alright, now it’s your turn. Tell us what book you love! Either write a post about it and link to that post using Mr. Linky below, or, in the event you don’t have a blog or don’t feel like writing a whole post, leave the title (and author) of your book in the comments below. Can’t wait to hear!
Next week’s theme: YOUR FAVORITE PARENTING ADVICE. Be sure to come back next FRIDAY, September 12 (see explanation below) for our next edition.
Program note: Amy has so graciously pointed out that “Things I Love Thursday” is not an original, brilliant idea of mine, but a slightly different kind of blog carnival already in existence over at The Diaper Diaries. Oh well, it was nice to think I tapped into my creative side if only for a moment. So. I’m changing this thing from “Things I Love Thursday” to “Friday Favorites” and next week’s edition will be posted on, well, Friday. (That is, until we find another “Friday Favorites” somewhere else. Because that’s how the internet is.)

It’s still an original, brilliant idea – LOL. Maybe you could change it to Things to Love Thursday or Things We Love Thursday.

Hi! I came across your site looking for resources for pastor’s wives. I’ve read some posts…thank you for sharing your life with those of us in the blogosphere. The posts are encouraging.
Books, my fave now would be Mr. Peabody’s Apples. This book is actually written by Madonna. I don’t necessarily like the author’s choice of lifestyle; however, the book is great at teaching how rumors are very hurtful and difficult to stop once started.

Can I list two?
One is a precious picture book called “I Love You, Mommy” by Jillian Harker. It’s about a little cub who keeps rushing off to do various things despite his mommy warning, “Wait a minute…there’s something you might want to know first.” But the cub ignores, of course, and fails. Mommy lovingly shows cub how to do it and cub thinks, “This feels good…I love Mommy.” The last time, cub stops short and listens to Mommy first before rushing off and all goes well. I refer to this book all the time with my daughter.
The other is a kids’ devotional book, which I read to my kids right before their nap. It’s called “Devotions for Preschoolers” by Crystal Bowman. There’s one for every day of the year. Each devotion includes a bible verse and a little prayer. It includes all the topics I’d want to draw out of the Bible to teach my kids. It’s written for a preschooler’s level. My daughter LOVES it.
BTW, in case you’re asking yourself, “Who’s Gwen?” I’m Pamela’s friend.

This is a great idea. I wish I had been around on Thursday to post. I’ll have to chime in next time.

[...] Kids, Parenting, Pregnancy & Babies So, Friday is upon us. Last week’s “Things I Love Thursday” was not a smashing hit, but I’m doing my best to not take it personally.
Thanks to those [...]
