Fishing

April 2, 2006

We (Brian and I) got into a discussion recently with several others about the concept of being “fishers of men” (Luke 5:1-11).

Here’s one of the reasons he is the pastor and I am not:

Brian: We are all called to be “fishers of men” but being a “fisher of men” doesn’t necessarily mean we are all called to be evangelists. Some of us are called to make the fishing pole, some are called to gather the fish, some are called to cast the net…

Me (without thinking of course): And some of us feel called to throw the bad ones back.

Amy, as a fellow pastor’s wife, that was very well said! LOL! Looking forward to more posts from you when your world slows down (or you adjust to your new pace :-) .)

Unlike the others, I think that is a terrible thing to say.

Is it too much to maybe read something spiritually uplifting here once in a while? Pray for a little more Godly self-esteem so you can stop using your lack thereof as an excuse to spew misery.

Ok, I thought it was funny too :) I read your response and then read this post. But then again, I also have a sarcastic sense of humor and since I have been reading your blog for a while I know that you are not bitter … blogs are a good way to vent and do not necessarily reflect our true selves.

I totally agree with you, Amy! I think that God would like to throw some back as well, but He has so much more love and compassion than we do. May we learn to be more like Him.

I know I am coming at this a little late in the game, afterall it’s now October, but I just think what you said Amy was something that anyone who is honest would confess to feeling once in awhile. I like this blog because it’s “real” and ya know, if I find another site for PW’s devoted to making retreat crafts or planning a ladies tea I think I’ll have a seizure!
